Women in Lebanon are significantly more mobile than their counterparts in Morocco and Yemen with 94% reporting that they are either somewhat or completely free with regard to their freedom of movement and association. Yet still 25.6% of Lebanese women believe it is acceptable for a women to be beaten by her husband in certain situations. Here, the SWMENA survey investigated the extent to which women in Lebanon felt they enjoyed freedom of movement without pressures from family or society. This includes general attitudes towards violence against women and whether domestic violence, in particular, is tolerated or rejected by society. Other issues raised include honor killings, causes of domestic violence, and public physical and verbal harrassment. These topics were covered in an attempt to understand power relations and views of women within society and the family.
